Description
In Yiddish
This book was complied from high quality scans of more than 200 rare Yiddish song-sheets (broadsides) from the turn of the 20th century which reside at Hebrew Union College. The author Mark Slobin called them "Tenement Songs."
These were beloved theater, variety, parody, and vaudeville songs, some set to American popular melodies of the period. All the songs are written in the Yiddish alphabet. The author's companion blog is providing ongoing research, translations, performances and recordings of the songs.
